การลดน้ำหนักอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพนั้นต้องอาศัยหลักการของการออกกำลังกายและการทานอาหารเป็นอย่างมากเช่นกัน ก่อนหน้านี้เราเคยได้ยินว่าการกินน้อยลง แต่การให้อาหารมากจะช่วยให้การเผาผลาญในร่างกายดีขึ้น

แต่จากการศึกษาของคณะสาธารณสุขศาสตร์มหาวิทยาลัยโลมาลินดาในสหรัฐอเมริกาพบว่าการรับประทานอาหารเช้ามากขึ้นและการรับประทานอาหารเย็นมากขึ้น

ทีมวิจัยวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจากการศึกษามิชชั่นเพื่อการศึกษา 2 ติดตามผู้ต้องขัง 50,660 คนในระยะเวลา 30 ปีนานถึง 7 ปีสำหรับการควบคุมอาหารและน้ำหนัก

พบว่ามี 4 คะแนนที่ทำให้ค่าดัชนีมวลกายลดลง (BMI) โดยการกินเพียงวันละ 1-2 มื้อกินมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ 18 ชั่วโมง (รวมเวลานอน) ไม่กินอาหารเช้าและกินอาหารเช้าหรือมื้ออาหารเท่านั้น

ในขณะที่กินมากเกินไป 3 มื้อต่อวัน (รวมอาหาร) และการรับประทานอาหารเย็นที่เชื่อมโยงกับโรคหัวใจชนิด BMI เพิ่มขึ้น 2, โรคหัวใจและมะเร็งบางชนิดเช่นกัน

วลีที่ว่า 'กินอาหารเช้าทุกวันราชากินอาหารกลางวันเหมือนเจ้าชายและกินอาหารเย็นอย่างผ้าขี้ริ้ว' แต่ก็ยังได้รับสำหรับผู้ที่คิดจะควบคุมน้ำหนักของตัวเอง
